Hi there! Nicole here today to share a super subtle background using the new Vicki Boutin Gel Crayons! I just love the soft feel they have on a background and are so easy to use too!
I had a photo with a sunset that was pretty and wanted to use that to create a soft look that mimiced the photo across my background.
I started my project using some Foundations cardstock and the yellow, orange and light blue Gel Crayons alont with my trusty stencil brush. Starting with the yellow grayon, I rubbed yellow crayon on my mixed media mat and picked up the color with my stencil brush and rubbed it across my paper in a circular motion.
I next added in some orange Gel Crayon, slightly overlapping the yellow and blended the 2 colors together. Last, I added the light blue following the same technique. I added more color where I felt it was needed and blended it all together with the stencil brush.
I wanted my background to have a little pattern, so I used the new dot stencil from Color Study and a yellow/orange Art Crayon to add that layer, using a stencil brush again to apply that color over the yellow part of the background.
I added some rows of stitch along the light pencil line I had created, which covered those lines up quite nicely and then pulled my page together from there. I fussy cut a whole bunch of florals from the Journal paper in the Color Study collection.
I popped those onto my page using foam adhesive, adding some small fussy cut pie charts from the vellum sheet in Color Study to add a little color.
I added a quick title using Thickers and stickers and mounted my project onto this beautiful rainbow background.
I hope you are inspired to get out your new Gel Crayons and create your own subtle and soft background of your own too! See you next week with a more bold and vibrant project!
