Hi there!
Nathalie with you today with a fun masculine mixed media layout featuring Storyteller. I am so guilty of creating many of my layouts with girly touches, but one of this year's resolutions are to take time to add pages to my son's album. So, I pulled Storyteller, some art crayons, a bit of gold glaze and dies to create this page:
I wanted to combine color, paper and mixed media in one page. So, I decided to create my page using a grid design. My first choice was to create my grid lines/quadrants and then use mixed media to define them.
I used a pencil and ruler to draw my gridlines, then used a flat brush and a masculine tones of art crayon to define the 4 quadrants of the grid. Once I colored in the quadrant, then I added splatters at the 4 corners of the grid, as if the rectangle was exploding. I worked each section at the time to try and keep a straight edge on the inside part of the grid. In addition, once the color dried, I used a white gel pen to define the division lines (but I think I will be handstitching these in the near future).
One of the ideas of the grid was to define each with a different motif. I wanted to mix circles and stars in this page. So, I fussy cut the specialty paper and glued the circles to the green space with glue dots -these add dimension-. My choice was to use the diagonally opposite quadrant with a similar shape but different texture, the best choice another layer of mixed media.
To repeat the circular elements of the green quadrant, I am using one of the newest stencils, gold glaze and an stencil brush. First, I made sure to mask the stencil so the application only went on the teal space; then placed the stencil so that the edge of it coincided with the inner lines of the grid. Finally, I applied the glaze so that the heaviest and more defined impression is towards the center of the grid.
Next was to use a contrasting shape to the circle, hence the stars. I used dies from one of Vicki's older stamp sets to cut papers with them. Then used foam adhesive to add them to the blue quadrant. I repeated the shapes in each of the grid spaces, so that the page is cohesive. You can see how it all came together in the following video:
I hope this inspires you to use Storyteller to document your memories. Whether you use a grid, mixed media, or a combination of both, remember to share with us your finished projects. We love seeing your work.
'Til next week,
