Happy Soul | Mari Clarke

Welcome to  the Vicki Boutin blog!  It's Mari Clarke here, and I am sharing a 12x12 layout today!

 

To start my layout, I chose some patterned papers and a few embellishments that coordinate with my photo, which is printed at 4x6 in color.

 

I chose the Composition, Sequence and Moonbeams papers for my layout, some fussy cut leaves from the Songbird paper and lots of the embellishments from the sticker sheets, chipboard and ephemera packs.  Love all of the embellishments from Storyteller.

 

To the lower right of the photo, I added the happy soul die cut piece and layers of fussy cut leaves, a bird and some stickers.

 

To the left side of the photo, I added more die cuts and fussy cut pieces as well as stickers.  I used strips of paper and the chipboard ruler horizontally below the photo.

 

Lastly, I added chipboard and stickers in the top right corner.  I splattered with gold splatters and all that is left is some journaling which will be added to the right of the photo above the little bird cluster.

Christmas Documenting with Storyteller | Nathalie DeSousa

Hello there! 

Nathalie here with my last project for this year! We are all taking a small break to enjoy the next few weeks with our families at home.  But, I wanted to leave you with one last fun idea for your Holiday documenting using the gorgeous Storyteller collection.  

 

Super simple and fun layout that documents this year's Advent calendar ( my family loves chocolate advent calendars!). Since most of these were gifted to my family before I had a chance to purchase them, I decided to put them inside an envelope, as they came via delivery to our place ( my sister bought one for each member of our family, as she was the only one not on lockdown)

I started by creating small envelopes about 2.5*2.25" using my Envelope Punch board and papers from Storyteller - Sequence, Patchwork, Wild Child, Memoir and Mariposa-.  I made 2 envelopes of each patterned paper, however I increased the size of one of the red envelopes so that it could fit my picture.

 

 

For the background, I chose a bright pink cardstock ( Michaels) as the envelopes showed nicely on it.  I mixed a bit of Gold and Iridiscent  glazes, and used my stencil brush to apply it through Vicki's exclusive poinsettia stencil onto the background. I diluted a bit of the extra mixture and added splatters to the page.  

 

 

Once the glaze dried,  I started attaching the envelopes atop the dried mixed media. I used a bit of foam adhesive to adhere the envelopes, so that they resemble a cascade of envelopes falling down the page.

I left one of the green envelopes and the large envelope open and set them in the center of the colum.   I used a group of small pieces of ephemera ( mostly all the star paper clips) to add interest to the green envelope.  Then slipped my picture into the red envelope and added a few stickers just to bring some interest to the picture.  I used stickers from the collection to create the closure of each of the envelopes.

 

To finish the page, I used a combination of the Alpha thickers and sticker from the tablet to create the title of the page.  The small puffy stars were the perfect accent to the title.   

 

 

I hope this inspires you to document your holiday memories using Vicki's Storyteller collection.  The collection is so versatile, you can create all sorts of paper crafting wonders.

Countdown is on! | Nicole Nowosad

Hi there! Nicole here today to share a FUN holiday project using Vicki's storyteller collection!

I started this project using Foundations Paper as my base, some matte acrylic gel and the rectangle stencil from the Storyteller release. I applied the gel through the stencil all over the background, in a bit of a random pattern. Once the matte acrylic gel dried, I applied a wash of watered down gold and silver glaze over top of it.

I let it all site and then rubbed off the top of the stencil to remove some of the glazes. While all that dried, I set to diecutting all the numbers for my page using a cut file by JustNick and several patterned papers from JustNick. I decided to type out some journalling on my printer of some of our favorite holiday past times.

I added each little strip onto each of the popped up numbers all over my page, arranging from 1-25! I decided to dicecut a title for the middle of my page and then a few wintery leaves from black patterned paper to fill in some gaps.

I really LOVE how this holiday page came out. It is definitely one of my favorite backgrounds and mixture of papers too!

Hi everyone!  Welcome to the Vicki Boutin blog today!  I created a very layered 12x12 layout with lots of fussy cutting that I want to share with you today using the beautiful Storyteller collection from Vicki Boutin and American Crafts!

 

 

I used the Vagabond paper as my base for the layout; I love the rich navy and subtle pattern for a background!  I ripped two strips from the Sequence paper for the two lower strips as a spot to ground my 4x6 photo!

 

 

I fussy cut lots of the florals and leaves from the Fresh Cut and Songbird papers.  I also cut two large navy leaves from the Medley paper.  Usin foam squares, I layered the flowers and leaves to the lower left and top right and side of this adorable photo!

 

 

I added a die cut journaling spot from one of the ephemera packs to the right of the photo; I also added a vellum piece to this area for my title.  I added a strip of the gold washi to the bottom as well as some sewing.  

 

 

I added some detail to the top left area by tearing a bit of the navy paper away, adding some of the Sequence paper behind the torn edge and some cardstock stickers and fussy cut pieces with foam adhesive for dimension.

 

 

To finish off the layout, I added some gold splatters!  I love how this turned out!

Documenting Christmas with Storyteller | Nathalie

Hello everyone!

Nathalie with you today to share a new project all about Christmas happiness!  I love this season, and it usually it is the busiest season of the year for us due to family and friends; however, this year it seems to be busy with work!  I think most of our celebrations will look a little different than most years, but Christmas is all about family and smiles, and making memories.  Today, I decided to pull a few pictures from our 2008 Christmas and bring all the color to the page

Have I mentioned how much I love Storyteller?  It is the perfect collection to document any story.   The papers and embellishments are so beautiful, all you need is a bit of simple mixed media and  a cute cut file.

 

I am using the b side of the Storyteller paper for my background.   Here I simply added a bit of art crayon with my stencil brush.  I started by scribbling some navy crayon at the top of the page with the idea of building a color column.  I added a bit of teal, then moved to the ochre color crayon to finish the application; since I did not clean my brush in between, I was able to get an ombre effect on the page.

 

To finish the background, I added a bit of iridiscent glaze to the crayon and diluted it with water.  I used the mixture to add shimmer splatters to the page. I set this to dry and continued working on the page.

 

 

I used a cut file from Handipaper to cut the large title for the page from Foundation paper.  Then used the Sequence paper to cut the letters to back the cut out.  I used the Vagabond and Medley to back the leaves of the cut out, then used a bit of foam adhesive to attach it to the center of the background.

Since the title is bringing plenty of embellishment to the page, I kept the layers behind the three pictures simple. The top one was a large ephemera speech bubble with a small cluster of embellishments at the top left side of it.

For the bottom pictures I used papers from the 6x8 paper pad, and added pieces of ephemera and mini tag pieces as layers.  Then added more embellishments in small clusters around the pictures.  I added my journaling at the left of the bottom pictures, and added the stamped sentiment using the Collection's stamp.

 

To finish the page, I added a few splatters of diluted gold glaze just to add the extra sparkle of the season.   Just love how this turned out!   Remember to enjoy the season, even when it is a bit off.  Take the pictures, and use Vicki's magic to documenting!

More holiday projects with Storyteller | Nicole

Hey there ! Nicole back on the blog today to share another holiday project I created using Vicki's Storyteller collection.

I just love taking a collection that is not holiday themed and use it for holiday projects - or vice versa! I started by adding some gesso to my text paper background and let that dry. I decided to cut a large wreath cut file from JustNick from the pretty mossy green patterned paper and then got to work filling in some of the little berry holes with the red patterned paper from the collection.

It is a bit finicky work, but I love the result. I did cut a 2nd wreath cut file and trimmed it out and stuffed branches into the wreath to poof it out a little more, then added a hand cut title from another paper in Storyteller.

I added some punched vellum circles and a few Vicki Boutin puffy stars to finish off the project! If you want to see how the project all came together, head over to watch my process video:

Our Story | Mari Clarke

Hi Vicki Boutin fans, it's Mari Clarke here with a 12x12 layout full of patterned paper and embellishments from Storyteller!

 

 

I started the layout with the Free Spirit paper as my base for my layout.  I cut strips from Vagabond, Fresh Cut and Narrative.  These are all 11 inches long and varyting widths up to 2 inches. These are the strips on the far left of the layout.  I also cut an 8 inch x 3 inch piece from the Plot paper, a 9.5 x 3.5 piece from the Fresh Cut paper and an 11x 9 inch piece from the Storyteller paper (4x3 cut apart paper).

 

 

I adhered the Storyteller grid patterned paper to my layout once the left side strips were in place.  Then I began to create more layers by placing the Fresh Cut and Plot large pieces horizontally. I did also cut a banner end in the Fresh Cut paper.

 

 

I added a scalloped edge to the plot paper with a We R Memory Keepers border punch.  I printed my black and white photo at 4x6 and used the Free Spirit paper as a mat.  I added some foam adhesive to the photo mat layers to add dimension.  I adhered the Lost In a Daydream die cut piece to the photo area with foam adhesive.

 

I added washi tape and some stickers and die cut pieces to the top of the photo area.  There are so many awesome stickers, chipboard pieces and die cuts in the Storyteller collection!

 

 

I added an embellishment cluster to the lower right corner, continuing a floral, butterfly, foliage motif.  The leaves are fussy cut from the Songbird paper.  I have also added stickers from the cardstock sticker sheets to this area.  The butterfly and floral die cuts are from the ephemera pack. I used the Decoupage Thickers for the title.  The numbers in the journaling area are stickers from the cardstock sticker sheets.

Quick Holiday Cards | Nathalie

Hi there!

Nathalie with you today to show you how easy you can transform Storyteller into Christmas cards.   I know most of us are rather busy (even at home) during the holiday season.  Well, let me show you two ideas to create cards in a flash, all you are going to need is patterned paper, a cutting template (cut file, dies or a good print and cut pattern), embossing ink and a few embellishments.

I kept my cards plain and simple, and easy to build, too!

For my JOYFUL card, I started with a piece of ripped tissue paper ( I happened to have a bit of gold from a present we had just opened).  This was attached to a Foundation paper panel (4.5"x5.5") with a bit of Matte Acrylic Gel.

 

While the gel dried, I used a die from Altenew (Poinsettia Builder) to cut the Poinsettia from the Wild Child paper, and also fussy cut two of the Medley leaves.  I simply glued them to the panel to form my focal point.

 

To finish the card, I mixed a bit of glitter with Matte acrylic gel to make my snow on the paper ( lots of glitter, little gel), then used it around the card. The sentiment comes from the 6x12 sticker sheet.  Simple, easy and took no time to build it up.

 

For this card/tag,  I am using one of the tags from the mini tag album.  Here, I used Vicki's exclusive Christmas stamp to create the wreath in the middle of the tag.  I simple heat embossed the image with gold powder.

 

I used FOundations paper to cut the J and Y, twice, using an Altenew Die.  I glued them together so that they look like chipboard, and then attached them to the tag, so that they read JOY in a vertical way, with the wreath as the "O".

 

 

This time, I used a sentiment from the Sticker tablet, and a few of the puffy stars to embellish the tag!  Simple and, once again, easy to put together!

Holiday cards with Storyteller

Hey there Vicki Boutin fans! Nicole here to share a collection of cards I made for the holidays using Vicki's Storyteller collection.

 

I created my first card with some Foundations paper and watered down gold glaze. I diecut a holly design from JustNick and backed it with patterned papers from the Storyteller collection.

 

I love the vellum circle paper and punched out a large circle to layer behind the holly design. Here is a little close up of some stitching over the gold glazed background.

 

I created two cards using a gold glaze splattered background made from Foundations paper. I simply watered down some gold and iridescent glaze and splattered it all over the paper and let dry. Once it was good and dry, I ran it through my digital cutter and cut several snowflakes for my next 2 cards.

I created the next card using one of Vicki's pre-made mixed media backgrounds! I was drawn to the colorful circles with the gold foiling already done for me!

I added a gold glaze splattered snowflake that I dicecut from JustNick as well, and used chipboard letters for the sentiment on my card front.

I used another pre-made mixed media background for the last card too. I just love the watercolor effect it has and added another gold glaze splattered snowflake as the star of the card, adding in another sentiment with the Storyteller chipboard letters.

 

I love how striking the snowflake looks on this one, with all that pretty splatter from the glaze on it.

 

 

I hope you are inspired to break out the Storyteller collection and pre-made mixed media backgrounds to create some cards for the holidays!

 

Tag Photo Mat | Mari Clarke

Hi Vicki Boutin fans!  It's Mari here and today I am sharing a 12x12 layout with a mixed media tag photo mat using Vicki Boutin mixed media and the Storyteller collection!

 

 

I cut a large tag from Vicki Boutin Foundations paper and added some patterned tissue paper to the tag with Vicki Boutin Matte Acrylic Gel medium.  Once dry, I added some Vicki Boutin gesso, stenciling with black permanent ink and stamping using the Storyteller stamp set.  I also added some modeling paste through a stencil. I added some Vicki Boutin Gold Creative FX through the stencil with the Vicki Boutin stencil brush.  I splattered with Art Crayons as well.  I love how the tag turned out!

 

 

I tore pieces of the Quill paper and added two strips of that to the left of the photo mat area.  I added stitching to the Quill paper. I added layers to the photo mat using ephemera and stickers from Storyteller. I stamped and fussy cut butterflies using the Storyteller stamp set and added these on foam dots to the tag.

 

 

I added some puffy numbers from the puffy phrase sticker sheets for my journaling area.  I love how the numbers draw attention to the story.  I added some chipboard alphas from the Decoupage alpha set and chipboard from the chipboard sticker sheets. To finish off, I added more black stenciling to the white areas and Art Crayon and Gold Creative FX splatters around the layout.
