Hey there! It's Laura again with another Artful Technique Challenge- this week, a combination of two of them; "Stitch It" and "Pop it Up!"
This is a Halloween themed layout so I started by choosing my color combination. I made the photos black and white because they were very yellow tinted and I knew they wouldn't look good against the color scheme I had in mind. I grabbed all of my purple, orange and green Vicki Boutin mixed media products and then used embellishments that were black, white and gold from the Wildflower and Honey Collection.
I started by playing around with texture glaze, watercolor brushes, art crayons, pigment powder and stencils on scraps of foundation paper. I knew that I was going to end up cutting out 2" squares from whatever I created so I wasn't concerned about the pieces I was making looking good, I just wanted there to be sections where the colors and textures intersected that I liked.
After I finished the pieces, I cut out my favorite parts of them into 2" squares and then used my sewing machine to put them in place on the 12 x 12 white cardstock. I love the way stitching adds a texture but also holds these heavily pigmented and sometimes slightly buckled papers in place.
Next, I used pop dots to raise the photos. I love the contrast of some of the squares being raised while others are not.
Last, I added a title and a few pieces from the chipboard and sticker sets from the Wildflower and Honey collection.
Here's a look at the full layout:
