Half Circles with Patterned Paper

Hi there! This is Laura Wonsik here and today I have a layout that I made in honor of my oldest and dearest friend. 

The color palette of this collection is great because it can match a wide variety of photos but the greens and blues were especially perfect for the photos that I had of my friend that I wanted to showcase. 

I started out by punching half circles with my 3" Marvy Uchida punch out of the patterned paper and then out of the 3x3 photos I had printed out. I then arranged them on cardstock in a random polka dot type pattern. Some of the paper half circles were smaller or larger depending on how much of the photo of my friend I wanted to see.

I then added some of the word strip stickers from the sticker set and the gold stars from the thicker set.

I also added some of the fun holographic pieces from the chipboard set.

This layout is sort of a love letter to my friend so the title of "You are" served as a great prompt for me to stamp some things I love and believe about her between all the circles using some wooden alphabet stamps and the Color Wheel Metallic Black ink.

Mixed Media Layout with Wildflower and Honey Papers

Hello!  Lorilei here today sharing a scrapbook layout focusing on the pretty papers in the gorgeous Wildflower & Honey collection by Vicki Boutin and American Crafts!

We were given the challenge to use papers from the collection, and the Hive and Full Bloom paper caught my eye, so I went with them!  Of course, I immediately started fussy cutting the florals from the Full Bloom paper!  I also decided to cut the Hive paper into a long strip with bits of the hive coming off the strip.  I selected a white background paper and started hatching a plan for the page.  I wanted the colour of the full bloom paper to blend into the white, so I reached for the Neutral Art Crayons and started mixing.  I ended up using lots of white, a touch of black and then one scribble of the rust coloured Art Crayon made the perfect colour to match the floral tones.  I used packaging and splattering on the background to apply the colour.  I also added splatters of grey for some interest.

Once my background was dry, I added my strip of hive paper and the individual hive pieces.

I added my photo with a foam backing for dimension and began tucking my fussy cut Full Bloom florals around the photo.

I added the chipboard tassel banner, chipboard sentiment and chipboard bees around the layout, I love the shine of the foil on those pieces, it adds a little touch of glamour!  The layout came together rather quickly and using the papers added so much interest and detail!

Building layers in a scrapbook page with Nathalie

Hello everyone!

Nathalie with you today with a new layout that is all about creating layers on the page, and this time i am adding paper layers with a touch of mixed media to my page.

 

This layout came together by working the layers in reverse.  Usually i start with a background and then layer paper on top, in this case, i  started by identifying the color i wanted to highlight on the pictures and started working layers that will make the pictures shine.   

 

First,  I used contrasting colors to frame the pictures -Greenery paper and 6x8 paper pad-.  Next, i glued them to a neutral paper that will make the picture frames stand out - 6x8 paper pad-.  My next layer is the one that is going to bring the color focus back to the pictures - Sweet Honey paper- as it has the color i want to highlight, and then i glue them all to a grounding layer (Queen Bee paper) this is the layer that is going to hold everything in place and is the foundation of the page.

 

 

Now that the layers are ready to go, then it is time to work layers on the background.   First i used the new Powder pigments to add a bit of color to a Foundation paper just in the areas where embellishments will be clustered.

 

It is time to connect the layers.  For this, i  glued my grounding paper layer and stamped leaf images that  on the watercolor areas, making sure that the leaves  images also show on the paper layers.  Just love the metallic inks as they show beautifully on  a dark background, too!

 

 

 

For my last layer i mixed the gold and rose gold glazes and diluted them to a thick consistency and then splatter it across the page connecting both watercolor areas.  I made sure that the background dried completely before adding the rest of the layers atop this.

 

 

 

I clustered  a few embossed leaves (created on the premade mixed media paper by embossing the leaves with the metallic inks and clear embossing powder), and added embellishments around the page  so that eye travels throughout the page.  I have created a process video that will show you how this page came together:

Stamping On Vellum

Hey there! It's Laura here and I'm excited to share how I used the Wildflower and Honey stamp set with the Metallic Color Wheel inks on vellum.

The first thing I learned about stamping on vellum with the Metallic Color Wheel Inks is that it's beautiful. The second thing I learned is that it's messy and that you have to wait awhile for it to dry unless you like a little smushed ink on your project. (Which oddly, I sort of do.)

My first step in making this layout was to play around on some paper with mixed media techniques using a color palette drawn from the photos for the layout, so mostly pinks and blues. 

Then, I stamped the large flower and the leaves on vellum and laid them over the patterns I created. Then, I machine sewed them to attach them instead of using adhesive as I didn't want it to show through and also I liked the dimension created by having only a portion of them attached. 

Last, I bunched them together on top of and below the title card. For the title card, I stamped "Be Awesome" using the stamp set and the metallic color wheel ink, placed some washi tape over the title, put texture paste over a stencil on top and then peeled back the washi to reveal just the title. Then I mounted it on some of the black patterned paper from the paper set and raised it with pop dots over the flowers. I also placed a few in the white space of my 3x8 photo.

Metallic Floral Scrapbook Layout

Hello!  Lorilei here today sharing a layout featuring the new Metallic Ink Color Wheel Ink Pad by Vicki Boutin.  The Inkpad was released with the Wildflower & Honey collection and couldn't be a better accompaniment to the collection! It was a natural fit for me to use the new stamp set as well for my layout!

I started with a 12x12 piece of Foundations Mixed Media paper and chose the neutral Art Crayon set for my background.  I covered the paper with a thin layer of Vicki Boutin Gel Medium and let that dry.  I added a mix of black and white Art Crayon with some packaging and also added splatters with a brush.  The Art Crayon made a cool effect on the Gel Medium, separating a bit, which I love!  I had an idea of the shape I wanted for the background, but I am always ok to switch it up depending on what the paint decides to do! 

While my background was air drying, I stamped loads of flowers and leaves onto plain thick cardstock with the metallic ink wheel.  I used all the ink colours as they blend so beautifully together!  I did a mixture of fussy cutting and cutting using the included die with the stamps.  One tip I can share is to allow some time for the metallic ink to dry once you stamp with it.  It takes a bit longer to dry than the other colour wheel inks.

Once everything had dried, I added the same stamps on top of the background with the metallic inks.  This will give me a fuller look to my fussy cut florals and add additional texture!  I placed my photo next and began to adhere all my florals and leaves.  I started at the top right of the page and trailed them down to the bottom left corner.  I usually add diagonal designs from left to right; it was fun to change things up!

I found a gorgeous chipboard sentiment from the Wildflower & Honey collection and added that beneath my photo, that gave me a great spot to add a puffy gold phrase for my title!  I tied the gold together by adding puffy gold hearts, throughout the floral trail!

I do love a neutral scrapbook layout.  The neutral Art Crayons are one of my favourite supplies, and I am glad to have a gorgeous ink set to go right along with them.

Stamping on Scrapbook Layouts with Nathalie

Hi there!

Nathalie with you today with a new layout that focuses on using the stamps to create the embellishments for the layout.  The new stamp set from the Wildflower and Honey collection are gorgeous, and then there is the new ink pads, a must have in your mixed media and overall scrapbooking stash.   I love stamps (own quite a few of them, too), so i am always excited to try new ones, so i got to work, and this is what i created

 

 

I used black art crayon to create the background for the page.  I love adding black to my pages, as it makes everything stand out!  I diluted some of the art crayon and applied it with a brayer, then kissed a bit of the color on top, and finished it all with splatters.   Once the background dried, i used the hexagon designs from the Wildflower and Honey stamp set to add a few details in the background with the new ink pads.

 

 

Since the new inks are pigment based, they do take a bit longer to dry, which gave me plenty of time to work on the flower and leaves embellishments for this page.  

 

 

To crate these pieces, i used the ink pads (gold and rose gold) to stamp a few flowers and leaves on some of the pre-made mixed media paper pad.  I chose to embossed the images so that i can set the pigment, bring the shimmer on the stamped  images and also add texture to the page.     Unfortunately, the stamp set does not have a leaf die, so i had to fussy cut all those images.

 

 

My choice was to cluster the embossed leaves at at the corners of the mixed media, and nestle the picture in one of the clusters.   The large floral ephemera pieces also were added to the clusters as they help anchor the design.

 

 

 

 

Only a few embellishments were needed in the page.   I love how this turned out and all those beautiful florals.   You can see how the page came together in the following video:

Messy Circles

Hi! It's Laura here, full of inspiration from this month's mood board. 

This layout is yet another of my story compilations, or layouts featuring a few small stories about my oldest daughter right now. Circles are always a fun basis for design so I started with 2" text circles printed out on a 6x8 paper. 

Then I masked those circles with Gina K Masking Magic paper and decided to see how they would hold under the weight of my mixed media fun. (For the record, I ended up using pop dots for the journaling spots because I didn't realize I had accidentally duplicated those stories on another layout.)

Turns out the masking magic paper did hold well under the weight of gesso, art crayons and iridescent glaze.

I also used some dry stencil brushes with art crayons over the dotted circle stencil for little bursts of color.

Lastly I used some of the die cut pieces from the Wildflower and Honey Collection for a title and accents around the circles.

Favorite Moment Layout - Moodboard Inspiration

Hello!  Lorilei here today sharing a layout I made using our Moodboard this week as inspiration! My attention was captured by the bright paint splatters and the pretty photo of the flowers; I love the whole mood board actually!

I chose a photo I took outside on our lane a few years ago and used the blues, golds and pinks as my jumping-off point for colour! 

I have wanted to try the pre-made mixed paper pad, so I started by looking through the paper pad for the perfect background.  I chose the paper with the four vertical paint, "swipes."  The yellow in the paper didn't suit my idea, so I swiped some gesso over the yellow with a palette knife and let that dry.  I then added a diluted wash of Blue Hawaiin Watercolor Marker over the gesso area and also added some washes of Art Crayon to enhance the washes already on the paper for my colour choices.  It worked well to change the one colour and add some extra splatters and colour!

While the background was drying I fussy cut some of the gorgeous vellum butterflies from the Wildflower & Honey specialty paper.  I chose the blue, red/pink and orange butterflies to add to the layout!  For a nice focal point beside my photo, I found this pretty kraft tag with the perfect pink shade on it.  I popped up the teal heart on the tag and added a chipboard sentiment.  You can find the tag and chipboard from Wildflower & Honey.

I added foam dots to the butterflies for the lovely dimension!  The gold foil detail on the butterflies is stunning!

I love how my page turned out!  I encourage you to be inspired by the mood board and see what you come up with!  I also recommend playing with the pre-made mixed media paper pad, it's amazing!!

Moodboard Inspiration with Nathalie

Hi there!

Nathalie with you today to kick off our September Mood Board.   Now that the kids are back to school (here in North America), we hope that all of you can take some time to play with VIcki's awesome products, and what better way to get inspired than a mood board.

 

 

Lots of color, patterns, rainbows plus bees and butterflies are all included in this board!  With so much to chose from, it was easy to pick a few of the images to inspire this page...

 

The first thing that caught my eye was the hexagons, so used a hexagon shape and a fine tip sharpie to recreate one on a foundation paper.   I made sure to add some broken lines throughout my design.

 

 

What is not to love about rainbows? and then there are those splatters in the the mood board!  I used the watercolor markers and my heat gun to add very pigmented color to each on the hexagons.   I mixed the watercolor with a tiny bit of water and splatter it in each hexagon, and quickly dried it with the heat gun to get the alcohol ink look on the page.

 

 

With all the splatters dried, the hexagon shapes needed to be resketched; so, i used VIcki's marker and  the sharpie to retouch the lines but this time i freehand the lines, and give them a bit of distress (scribble).  Love how the pattern shows between the paint splatters.

 

 

To stretch the hive pattern, and to bring the shine from the gold stars in the mood board, i stamped the hive patterned from the new stamp set using a combination of the gold and pewter inks to the side of the hive, as to create a frame for the picture.

 

 

I chose this picture of some of my youngest cousins (after a car ride) to document.  I layered some paper from the Wildflower and Honey collection behind it, as well as cut pieces from the packaging.   For the title, i simply mixed a sentiment from the sticker book with a few alphas from my stash.

 

 

To finish the page, i added my lines of journal, a small cluster of embellishments at the bottom of the page, and then sprinkled gold stars and bees (think ZZZs) around the page.  The following video will show you how it all came together:

I love how this turned out.   This background will go to my list of my favorites, as it it colorful and easy to construct, but then there are all the small details from the WIldflower and Honey collection that just stand out.

One Design, Two Layouts

Hey there! It's Laura here and I have two pages to share today. The first, a double page 6x12 layout, inspired the second, a double 4x6 and 6x8 pocket page spread. I basically "scrap-lifted" myself after seeing the first spread. I just loved how it turned out so much that I decided to try it on a smaller format.

The first step for both layouts was playing around with art crayons, texture glaze and stencils. I love just experimenting to see what happens.

I often let photos inspire my color scheme choices and I particularly loved accenting this palette with the gold ink and silver glaze.

After making the pieces, I layered them on top of each other to create a couple scalloped rows.

Then, I fussy cut some leaves from this patterned paper to add some green pops of color.

Last I added the title from this Thickers pack and stamped the "Be" from this stamp set. Here is the completed layout.

The first layout was the same steps just on a larger format.
