Hello there !
Nathalie back today with a new layout idea using the beautiful Wildflower and Honey collection. I love the rich tones in the collection and the soft distress that all the papers have in the design, so today, i want to use a bit of mixed media to match the look of the papers on my layout.
The idea came from the Queen Bee paper. The distress in the bee hive pattern and the rainbow colors were just what i needed to document this picture of my teenage son.
I started by adding a bit of watercolor marker to a foundation paper using a brayer. I choose to work with teals and yellows as they are the predominant colors in the Queen Bee and Bloom paper. The streaks of watercolor that the brayer leaves behind will add to the distress look of the page.
To continue the pattern in the Queen Bee paper onto the background, i chose to use the stamps set and art crayons. I scribbled the stamp with different art crayons color and then spritzed them with water ( this will activate the pigment in the crayon and transform it into watercolor). The image is then stamped on the page, and the results are that of a lose watercolor shape -idea for distress-. But to add to the look of the page, i continue stamping the image so that i can get a more faded look of the impression as the pigment is consumed, thus adding soft shadows and imperfect images.
Once the background is dried, then it was all about assembling the page. For this, i chose to fussy cut pieces of the Queen Bee paper so that they look like a fragmented bee hive, and glued them to the page in between the stamped bee hive images.
I cut a large piece of the bee hive image and glued it to the page under a strip of the b-side of the Bloom paper. Then added just a few more fragments of the hive to complete the background of the page.
I used papers and embellishments from the WIldflower collection to make clusters around the picture and create the title of the page. This collection is amazing and so versatile; it can easily be used to create boys pages.
I love how this turned out, and trust me the camera does not do justice to what this page looks like in real life. The page came together easily and very rapidly, the following video will show you the process:
Don't you just love how easy this page came together, and how a bit of stamping with art crayon can add a bit of distress to your projects!?. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions on how this came together.
