Hello friends! I am so excited to share a challenge layout to celebrate International Scrapbook Day! I wanted to create an artsy layout, using the fun challenge recipe made by Nathalie! OH and Vicki is giving away really nice prizes too!
The butterflies inspired my whole layout! I thought of them taking flight, and started by punching and die cutting all the patterns from the Color Kaleidoscope collections, and the 6x8 paper pads.
First, I stenciled with the Color Kaleidoscope circle stencils, masked with Post-it-Note paper cut with the die from Vicki Butterfly Stamp and Die Set (called Escape from the Field Notes release). I then swiped Iridescent Glitter Texture Paste through the stencils. After that dried, I added some of the Vicki Boutin Color Wheel Pigment Inks over the Iridescent Paste. By punching and die cutting all the different patterns, I was able to fill the 12x12 White Foundations Mixed Media Art paper with butterflies in rainbow order. I stamped on some of the bigger butterflies/moths.
After I had enough butterflies for my desired design, I moved them off the page, and added Watercolor Marker splotches. Add more water for lighter color, less water for more intense color. I added the Watercolor Marker Mixed Media to coordinate with each color section of the butterflies. To blend the Watercolor Marker, introduce the next color while the previous color is still slightly wet. I like to play with the Watercolor Markers to learn how they interact and behave, so I can learn the result and get the look I want.
I added the Iridescent Glitter Texture Paste to the hand-cut title, and let it dry while I added more to the page. Notice the photo. I edited in Photoshop, to layer the color photo under the black and white layer, and erase the top layer to reveal myself in color in the photo. Then I hand-cut the photo around the butterfly wings. I have never created with a photo cut in a butterfly shape like this, but it seems fun on this page!
I use lots of American Crafts Foam Tabs to add dimension, but you can always use a couple layers of card stock if you like less dimension. I added some epoxy hearts from the Thickers (Epoxy Color Kaleidoscope) pack. I added in the black and white words from the Thickers Color Kaleidoscope Chipboard pack. I punched more small butterflies from a scrap of VB Foundations Paper. Handwritten journaling, under the large title, adds more black and white to this very colorful layout. What are you making for iNSD? Are you joining in our challenge? I hope so! Thank you for looking today!
