Nathalie with you today bringing you a new layout that is all about being creative with my materials. I love working backgrounds for my pages, however when you have a pretty busy week as mine has been, Vicki's Pre-made mixed media paper pad is the best way to get a page started and completed with minimal work. Let me show you what i did:
I started with one of the pre-made backgrounds and jazzed it up by adding some texture. For this, i mixed a bit of Irisdiscent glaze with Mint Julep watercolor marker, then used the new art wedge to create the impression by running the glaze through one of the Color Kaleidoscope stencils.
Once the glaze impression dried completely, a few splatters of gold iridiscent glaze (diluted with water) were then added to the background, and then set aside to dry completely. In the mean while, i started building layers and embellishments around the picture of my daughter during her bible study.
The clusters around the picture were created using mostly ephemera pieces and a few stickers. I wanted to pick up on the colors in the background with all the pieces that i added to the layout, plus what could go wrong with florals.
The title of this page was placed at the bottom right corner of the layout. A few elements from the cluster were repeated here so that they create a visual triangle and drive your eye through the page. A few lines of journal and a few drops of black ink complete this page. I have created a video that will show you how easy and quickly this came together:
I hope this inspires you to pull your Vicki Boutin's products and use them up, trust me you want to make space for the new collection (releasing July 10th, and i can say it is a beauty!!!).
As always please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. And have a great weekend.
Hi everyone, Jana back again with you and i have a new Layout to share.
I took some silly/cute pictures from my hubby and our puppy and i really love them. I started this project with some of my boarder punches and some neutral papers.
I only wanted to use kraft, black & white with a touch of yellow/orange here. The Papers are all neutral and i used three different punches to get a nice mix of different shapes and dimensions.
I knew that i wanted to bring in some yellow and orange with Die Cuts and with stamping and splatters on the background. I grabbed a stamp for the Field Notes Collection and two colors from the Watercolor Markers. I added water to the colors and stamped some messy circles on the background paper. I also added some splatters in yellow and orange and for more contrast, some in black. I really like how the colors are peeking out from behind everything.
I stitched the paper strips on to my background paper and ruffled up all of the edges. I added some yellow flowers behind the picture and the big word "remember" as my title.
Some chipboard and puffy stickers, in yellow, orange or black&white, were added to the mix. I used a lot of 3D circles behind them, just for even more dimesion. Some of the thread ends were left on the stitching, for some more texture and interest. I really love how this layout looks and turned out

Nathalie here with a new layout that was totally inspired on this week's color challenge. I love color, and this week's color board is vibrant, bold and so super fun, and it was the perfect palette to document a not so happy time in my life, but before i show you how i used VIcki's products, let me show you the color inspiration
And here is what i created using the colors as inspiration:
Let's talk about vibrancy, boldness and color -we will chat about the coffee and medicine combination other time ;)-. The idea of the background was inspired by the coffee shape and the Pop Dots paper (Color Kaleidoscope). First, i used a circle template to pencil in three sets of circles on the foundation paper, and then used watercolor markers to add color to each of them
Once the watercolor dried completely, i used the Ink Spill stencil to create a few rings on the page using a combination of gold and rose gold glazes and a stencil brush. Once it dried, it was time to put the page together.
A few papers from the collection were used to back and layer the picture, and then a few hearts were fussy (Paper Hearts) so that they match the colors of the background circles.
A few stickers, and embellishments were added around the hearts so that they form clusters around the picture. I chose to keep the embellishments to black and white so that they stand out from the background.
The last grouping of hearts was then used to mark the title positioning. The title comes from the Color Kaleidoscope collection, and is the perfect color to bring the stencil images and the embellishments together. A few lines of journal and black art crayon splatters complete this page. Here is a small video that shows you how it all came together:
I love how this came together, and how a not so happy moment in my life shines in this colorful page:
i hope this inspires you to use the colorboard to create a project of your own using Vicki's products. Remember to share with us what you create, and if you have questions on how this came together, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Hello friends! I have a fun layout to share with you today, featuring the color challenge posted in Vicki's Facebook Group. We are using a bright and cheery color scheme today. Cobalt, violet, magenta, orange, yellow and aqua are our colors to play with.
My layout features a watercolor painting I made for my grandma for Mother's Day, so a happy and colorful color scheme is perfect for this celebration. I used the watercolor markers in a new way today, and I cannot wait to share it with you. There is also a process video for you at the bottom of this post. I kept my colors in the same order as the sample photo.
Color scheme photo.
First, I added water to an acrylic block, and used the lid from Vicki Boutin White Gesso to stamp using the clean water. Then, I touched the tip of the Watercolor Marker to the clean water to bleed the color around the ring. You can add more than one color to each circle, and I chose to keep the order from the challenge photo to keep it simple. You can add a second color before the first color dries, to get a nice blend. I ended with the aqua color, that coordinates with my photo.
I added punched circles to coordinate with the colors of the rings. I punched several different sizes of circles and a few different patterns for each color. I added them and folded up the edges, overlapping some and adding color coordinated embellishments. I punched the acetate sheet from the cover of the Ready To Use Mixed Media Paper Pad. The black and white flower, and the pink butterfly are from the acetate. It was fun to add lots of the epoxy Thicker elements, and puffy stickers.
I added the paint brush and the pen die cut in a criss-cross fashion under the photo, and over the text print layer beneath. I added the teal butterfly to draw attention to the photo. The movement on the page leads your eye directly to the photo and the butterfly die cut gives your eye a place to pause. I added a floral branch as well to give some more weight to the photo cluster.
Have you tired this color challenge, and Vicki Boutin Watercolor Markers yet? I can't wait to see what you create! Share it with us in the group here:
Hi everyone, Jana back again with you and i have a new Color Challenge Layout for you.I decided against orange and yellow but added some light versions from the blue, purple and turquoise.
I am very sick and at home, so i started this project in my bed. Handstitching! I grabbed a alphabet stencil from Amy T. and some matching embroidery thread. The square for my stitching is 7" x 7" and each row of the letters is ca. 1" - so i have seven rows of letters. Yes, this took a lot of time but i loved every minute of it and i really love how it turned out!
After i finished all of the letters i grabbed the Watercolor Markers, the same colors. I watered the pigment down and smudged the colors between the letters with a little piece of plastic. I also splattered some of the colors next to it. I am totally fine with getting the colors on my thread, it´s giving some different shading and i love the look of it.
First i wanted to use six or seven very small pictures, but i decided against it. They were kinda lost on the big busy background. We played with snapchat the other day and there is a new filter that had exactly the same colors like i have used on my background... awesome, right?!
I punched out a lot small hearts from a patterned paper with the perfect colors on it. I placed them around the photos and glued each of them down with a 3D square.
I scattered some other things around everything and i am very happy about how it turned out. The purple colored flowers are from the Watercolor Stickers from the Field Notes collection, i needed something in purple and now they are perfectly matching.
That´s it, i really hope you´re inspired by the colors and that you´ll like my layout! Check out my YouTube Channel for a process Video

Nathalie with you today to wrap up our sketch week here in the Vicki Boutin blog. Jana has provided a fun sketch for us to work with (thank you Jana!), and for a change, i actually stayed true to the sketch and totally was inspired to create this page using Vicki's latest collection, Color Kaleidoscope:
and here is the sketch that was the inspiration for this layout:
It all started with one of the pre-mixed media backgrounds to which i added a bit of gesso through one of the Color Kaleidoscope stencils. Once the impression dried, Blueberry Pie and Blue Hawaiian watercolor markers were added to the background so that they mark the area where the layers and pictures will sit.
The sketch calls for a grid with lots of paper layers and a center focal point; so, i started with two pictures, and cut a few of the papers from the collection -to the same as the picture- to add as a layers behind the picture.
To create my focal point, i pulled a few stamped images (these were created with the collection stamp on one of the pre-made mixed media paper pad) and layered some of the fussy cut florals -from one of the collection papers- These flowers help bring color to the page, and pick some of the colors from the background.
The only change made was moving the journal lines from the title square to the diagonal opposite position, plus the frame/card ephemera helps balance the grid nicely. A few drops of gold ink complete this page. I have created a small video to show you how it all came together:
Now it is your turn to be inspired by the sketch to create a project of your own. You can find a copy of the sketch at the Vicki Boutin Mixed Media Community, or just download it from this post. I cannot wait to see what you create - remember i am always around if you have questions on how this came together!

Hello friends! I am excited to share my take on the lovely sketch by Jana! The sketch has a grouping of layers in the center of the layout, and I took the idea and made it my own. Sketches are a great way to cut down your design time, but they still offer you the opportunity to infuse your own style.
The sketch features layers of square shapes in the center, but I chose to create three areas of layered squares, so that I could use more patterned paper and three photos. The torn rectangular and square shapes are piled up under the photos to create dimension, and interest for the eye. By starting with the Ready To Use Mixed Media Paper Pad background, I was able to finish the layout pretty quickly.
The sketch features layers of flowers in the middle of the squares, and I chose to use the mixed media background as the center element with the title. The splatters are also focused in the middle of the page, like the sketch. I placed my journaling in the same position on my page.
The torn edges soften all the straight lines of the shapes, and I tore different areas on each rectangle. Some are torn at the bottom, and some the side. The bottom layers are glued at the top of each shape, and the top layers are popped up on foam tabs.It was fun to add coordinating patterns in all the pretty colors from the Color Kaleidoscope line.
After adding all my square and rectangular layers, I added holographic stars from the Hello Friend Chipboard Thickers pack. I also added some words to each grouping from the same pack of Thickers. Washi tape from Color Kaleidoscope is at the top of each grouping to look like it is holding the layers. I hand-stitched through the washi tape to secure it. The thicker crochet thread adds some of the white from the background to the top of the layers.
I added journaling lines with a pencil and a T-square ruler. The photos show how much Peanut has grown and become more secure with his life full of love. Since these photos are taken with my phone bad lighting, I kept them small to hide the grainy aspect. The photos are 2x3. The holographic washi tape at the top repeats the holographic star color on the layers.
Here is a process video of the layout if you would like to see how it came together.

Hi everyone, Jana back again and i have a new Sketch inspired Layout for you. I created the Sketch and i really loved to play with it.
This is my Layout, sinpired by the Sketch
I decided to go with some rectangles instead of squares, just because of the pictures i printed. I started with fussy cutting and die cutting some tiny leaves in different colors. I wanted to have lots and lots of layered pieces in the middle...
Once the texture paste was dry i started to color the paper. I grabbed some different Watercolor Markers and a Watercolor Brush, i added just a tiny bit of the markers into the water and also added some more water to get a nice watercolor look. I mixed some purple in the mix and also splattered the colors around. In the end i will cover up most of the mixed media but i am ok with that. I enjoyed the process and that is all that matters, right?!
I placed the pictures an some pretty papers in the middle from the Layout. I added some Ephemera pieces behind everything and a little journaling card. I stayed in the neutral color scheme just because of the nature pictures i am scrapping today.
All the little leaves, flowers and butterflies were placed between the pictures and the papers. I added lots of dimension with 3D Squares. I stayed pretty close to the sketch and i really love how it turned out.
My title is the chipboard sticker in the upper right corner. Every Pictures tells a Story. The story behind my pictures are the love for our garden. My hubby loves to spend a lot of his time in the garden, changing flowers and plants. Buying new things and just having the best of time... it´s perfect, because i don´t like it at all ;)

Nathalie with you today to wrap up Mom/flower theme. I hope you all have had a chance to look at Jana and Leigh's projects, so much inspiration. I think this theme was perfect for me since what can be more glorious than pairing up mixed media and flowers together. So i pulled a few of Vicki's products and the Color Kaleidoscope collection to create this page,
I wanted to celebrate the relationship my sister and nephew have together, so i pulled a few recent everyday pictures of them, and started building the background for the page.
It all started with a well gessoed foundation paper to which i added an stencil impression (Color Kaleidoscope stencil) using a combination of iridiscent glaze and gesso. This was set aside to dry completely before adding a bit of watercolor marker (Blueberry Pie and Mint Julep). It is unfortunate that the camera cannot capture the sheen of the watercolor and the satiny finish of the stencil impression as they both have a little iridiscent glaze in them.
The idea was to have flowers cascading around and behind the picture, so i used two pieces of paper at the top of the page, and created a slit so that i could rip the papers and create the folds that would start the cascade of flowers.
I used multiple pictures for this page -these were backed and layered with papers from the collection- and then layered lots of fussy cut flowers, from the 6x8 and 12x12 paper pads so that they look that they are softly falling to the right of the page.
To embellish the page, i used simple cardstock stickers in black and white, and a few hearts so that they do not take away from the picture or the flowers in the page. A bit of foam adhesive behind the stickers makes sure they do not get lost in the page.
To finish the page, i added a title made up of the puffy and chipboard stickers, a few lines of journal and a few colored puffy hearts to bring the colors of the background to the top of the page. The following video will show you how it all came together:
I hope this has filled you with some inspiration to get your mom or Mother's Day memories documented. Remember to contact me if you have questions on how this came together.
Have a great Mother's Day!

Hello friends! This week, to celebrate Mother's Day, I am sharing a double page, multi-photo layout. I combine six photos from a post I created for my Mom on Facebook. Florals and Moms go hand-in-hand, so this week we are adding florals to the challenge. What is your favorite way to add floral images to your paper crafts? My favorite tools are punches and stamps/dies.
Most of the time, I create one page, with the thought that it will inspire the second page in your paper crafting. I created the floral wreath on the left by stamping with the Color Kaleidoscope Stamp and Die Set. I thought carrying the Paper Hearts magenta pattern over to the page on the right was a way to draw your eye to the second page. Lots of meandering florals carry your eye through the right-side page and over the photos nestled in the flowers. Flowers, hearts, and circles make up the shapes on both pages.
Left side: This page focuses on the center of the layout. I cut a seven inch circle from the Paper Hearts pattern, and backed it with the Ready To Use Mixed Media Paper Pad paper. I heat embossed the large floral stamp and the single leaf from the Color Kaleidoscope Stamp and Die Set. I splattered White Gesso around the outer edges of the stamped circle. Lots of punched flowers and die-cuts from the Ephemera pack are scattered around to create the floral wreath. I chose papers that had sunset colors like orange, red-orange, pink, magenta, red-violet, and violet.
Right side: The magenta Paper Hearts pattern, is continued across, and folded over at the top to showcase the heart pattern. The story is a peak into my heart, so this pattern was perfect. I hand-stitched a few cross stitches to hold down the folded section. The ledger pattern from the Side Note paper is the perfect background for writing or typing your story! With the light background, I was able to add lots of color and the meandering flowers in a horizontal fashion across the right page. I tucked in five photos on this page. I traced around the left over circle from the left page to create a circular spot to house my journaling. I watercolored the stickers from the Field Notes collection in the same sunset colors to bring the circular shape over to this page as well.
This close up view shows you the layers of punched and die-cut flowers, leaves, hearts, and the die-cut banners from the Ephemera Pack. I added lots of color to balance with the strong color on the left page. Lots of movement in the meandering waves of flowers lead your eye through the bottom portion of the layout. I added the Iridescent Glitter Texture Paste to some of the smallest flowers, and used them as centers for the larger florals. That top right photo of me as a seven year old kid repeats the whole retro 70's vibe. Who else remembers rust and avocado colored refrigerators? :)
This close up of the left page shows the small title. I painted the Paige Evans Thickers with Vicki Boutin Gold Glaze to tie in with the gold splatters on the Ready To Use Mixed Media Paper from the background. One photo sits close to the title, on top of the two banners from the Ephemera Die-Cut Pack. It was fun to add different puffy stickers and enamel shapes to the centers of all the flowers. The two watercolor circular stickers reinforce the circular shape on this page.
With a double page spread, it is almost impossible to show both pages completely. I cropped in a little closer to show how the two pages tie in together. I hope you are inspired to create a layout to celebrate the relationship with your Mom, and some of the photos that tell your story! Thank you for visiting today, and happy crafting!
