Let's have fun with the new Pre-Made Mixed Media paper pad

HI there!

Nathalie with you today with a new project that focuses on the new Pre-Made Mixed Media paper pad.   This new pad is just perfect for all the levels of mixed media users, as it is a great starting point if you love mixed media, and also takes the fear of making mistakes to all the novice mixed media makers.   Vicki truly designed a super fun and versatile product, and since i love adding my own flair to everything, i played with a few more of Vicki's magic to create this layout

 

 

It all started by choosing one of the pre-made backgrounds, and adding a bit more mixed media layers on it.  First i used one of the Kaleidoscope stencils and art crayons to create the impression on the paper.  My choice was to have the colors change from yellow to teal along the horizontal line.

 

 

 

To complement the pre-made background,a few color drips were added.  For this, the new Watercolor Markers were mixed with  a bit of Iridiscent glaze and water and then used to create the splatters and drips that matched the colors of the stenciled impression.

 

 

 

To construct the layout, a JustNick Studio cut file was used to create the background.  It was cut from white cardstock, and then backed with papers from the Color Kaleidoscope collection and some from VIcki's 6x8 paper pad and Field Notes collection.

To embellish the page, stickers from the Color Kaleidoscope collection were added around the title following the color of the paper used .   The holographic chipboard stars were then scattered to continue the look of the embellishment clusters.

 

 

To complete the visual triangle of this page, i added one last cluster at the bottom corner of the picture.   To ground the cluster, i added a small piece of washi tape (color kaleidoscope) that matches the color used in the page.  The following video will show you how the page came together:

Having the pre-made background pages was a great way to get this page started and finished in a small amount of time.   The ready made pages are not only great for backgrounds, but also can be used to create embellishments,   layers, etc.

Spring Layout with the Ready To Use Mixed Media Pad

Hello friends! Leigh here, to share the new Ready To Use Mixed Media Pad from Vicki's new Color Kaleidoscope line! I just love that Vicki has personally created all the papers in this pad. It is like having her do all the mixed media background for you! IF you are new to mixed media, this is a great place to start! 

 

 

 

This is the front of the packaging on the paper pad, so you know what to look for, or what to request from your local scrapbook store! There are even metallic gold accents on some of the pages! 

 

 

 

 This layout took less than 25 minutes to complete, thanks to the ready to use mixed media background from the pad! Look at all that gorgeous blue watercolor art, just waiting for you to add your elements on top! I chose to add hand-cut leaves from the Scattered Leaves paper in the Color Kaleidoscope line, and some patterns from the 6x8 paper pad. I used an Instax photo printed directly from my phone to save time. 

 

 

 

 The blue from the background was repeated in the top layers, as was the white leafy sprigs. I added three different printed patterns for fussy-cut leaves. The cloud die cuts also repeat the cloud shapes in the photo. This was a really simple page to create thanks to the background! Most of us have a pair of scissors, so that is one of the few tools used for this layout. 

 

 

 

The bent up edges of the leaves create some texture on the page, and keep it looking organic and create movement. I added a few chipboard Thickers embellishments, in the neutral tan color. I can't wait for you to try these great paper backgrounds in the Ready To Use Mixed Media Paper Pad.

Mixed Media Backgrounds | Cutie with Jana

Hi everyone, Jana here with you today and i have a fun new Layout to share.
Let´s talk about the ready to go Mixed Media Backgrounds from the 'Color Kaleidoscope' Collection, ok?
This Paper Pad is awesome, you´ll get 36 12x12" sheets (170lbs) and they are abolutely stunning. Totally Vicki!
There are some with gold details and the best part, Vicki have made all of these.

When you are afraid of using colors/mixed media on your background paper or when you´re pretty new to mixed media, then this is exactly what you need in your life!
I love mixed media and i love to make a mess but this Paper Pad is to fun not to use!

I grabbed one of the ready-to-use Papers for my Background today. My first idea was to add some more colors/texture to it, but i decided against it, just because the paper is SO awesome.
My title is a selfmade handstitched title and i love the extra texture here. The pictures are from our little puppy and he is the cutest!

I was in the mood for some pretty flowers and hearts but also some kraft papers and details. I started with some fussy cutting, flowers and leaves from the Vellum Paper with the silver/holographic print, some color matching hearts, cards from the cut-apart Paper and some kraft paper strips from different Papers. I really love how everything is working together.

The best part today, no drying time, ready-to-use Papers are great when you want to create a mixed media page but don´t have enough time for a big project...
everything worked perfectly and my page was done in under 20 minutes. awesome, right?!

I wanted use one of the cute cameras but as i saw the chipboard sticker "you are loved" i knew i needed to change it. I placed the flowers around my photo and the hearts were placed on the same colors on the background. I used 3D squares for a lot of dimension and my page was nearly done!

I added some matching thread behind some flowers and my final touches were some more little stickers. I can´t tell you how much i love this layout!

Clean and Subtle Mixed Media with Nathalie

Hi there!

Nathalie with you today to bring you a new project that features lots of mixed media in a subtle and clean look. I know we all associate mixed media with color, texture, etc, but in reality there are many ways to add mixed media to your projects without having it be the focus of the page.  So sit down comfortably, and let me show you how i used VIcki's Mixed Media line and the new Color Kaleidoscope collection in this page:

 

 

 

At first glance this page looks simple and clean, but it is filled with mixed media made easy.   My first idea for this page was to create the flowers and leaves that surround the page, for this i pulled the new pre-made Mixed Media paper pad, and added gold glaze splatters, followed by some stamping - i used black ink and the new Color Kaleidoscope stamp set -

 

 

 

For the leaves, i used the new Watercolor markers (Juicy Pear, Watermelon Burst and Blueberry Pie ) to add color to a piece of foundation paper using a brayer, then added a second layer of pigment using art crayons in Olive and Black  -using a brayer once again- .   When the pigment dried, i used both the Color Kaleidoscope stamp set and the Escape the Ordinary Stamp Set to create all the leaves.   All the flowers and leaves were then fussy cut to use on the layout.

 

 

This week, our assignment is to work with stencils, so I used the new Kaleidoscope collection to add some texture to the background in a subtle way.  Since i am using color cardstock as the base for the page, first i used some of the papers to create two layered triangles at the corners of the page, then added gesso with an acrylic brush to haze the area where the picture, flowers and  title will be placed.

 

 

Next i used a mix of Gesso and Iridiscent Glaze to create the impression of the circles on the page.   I chose to use a stencil brush to add the mixture, so that the impression is soft and clean, but stippled some of the areas to add dimension and the little pop of color.

 

 

The  flowers were placed on clusters around the picture, and title, but forming a diagonal line on the page.   I used some of the cardstock stickers as layers of embellishments, and the puffy stickers are a title for this page.   Here is a video that shows you how it all came together:

I really love how this turned out, even when it took some time to put together;  mixed media does not have to be bold and messy, it can be soft and subtle..."confined funk" like Vicki calls it!

Stencil Week: Floral Stencil Scrapbook Layout

Hello friends! Leigh here, sharing my floral stencil layout for this week on the blog. The design team is focusing on using the new Color Kaleidoscope Stencils, and how versatile they are. I had lots of fun playing with the new Color Kaleidoscope products! 

 

 

 

The floral stencil took center stage on the layout. I taped off around the stencil, and added gesso through it. I wanted this area to hold the title of the page. I chose to create a frame slightly shifted left, and added some stamping on the bottom right with the new Color Kaleidoscope Stamp and Die Set. 

 

 

 

The background paper is the Look Up pattern from Color Kaleidoscope, and inspired the pink color scheme for the page . The fussy cut florals are from the Flower Shop patterned paper, also from Color Kaleidoscope. I created a floral frame around the stencil area to highlight it. I made sure to bend up the edges and centers of the leaves and flowers to add more dimension, and an organic feel to the layout. 

 

 

 

 The lovely magenta flowers from the Flower Shop paper add lots of texture and dimension, when added to the page with pop dots. I added some stamped phrases, from the Field Notes Stamp and Die Set, near clusters of embellishment around the frame. The magenta art crayon works so well to add a color-coordinated splash of splatters. 

 

 

 

I added the epoxy title to the center of the floral frame, and the photo, and more Color Kaleidoscope Puffy Sticker embellishments. A few more enamel dots from previous collections by Vicki Boutin, and a stamped date and label finish out the layout. I love how the ombre pink dots of the background paper fade, and add a subtle pattern to the page.

Fun Day with Jana

Hi everyone, Jana back again and i have fun new Layout to share. I was totally inspired by a patterned Paper from the Color Kaleidoscope Collection.

I started with some fussy cutting, flowers and butterlies from two patterned Papers. I also cutted the Paper with the colored triangles apart. The picture shows me and a good friend, we´ve met us last week at a german creative show. We had a lot of fun and i really loved the time we spent together. I wanted to create a colorful memory about this day.

I also wanted to create some colored and textured triangles on the background. I grabbed one of the new stencils and some cardstock to cover up some parts from the stencil to get my triangle shape. I really like how this turned out and it worked perfectly fine!

Then i grabbed the watercolor markers to get some color and interest to my background. I added just some tiny dots of the color on a acrylic block, grabbed a big brush and a lot of water... splattered and painted. I also placed the patterned papers triangles on top of the colors. But before i did that i stitched some tissue paper to them. I distressed the edges and this is giving so much texture.

I really love how this is looking so far. The colors in the background are awesome and i love to play with the watercolor markers.

I found some matching elements in the Mixed Media Ephemera pack and placed everything around the picture, which i placed on top of the bright green triangle.
My title is a mix from the puffy sticker words and the chipboard stickers. I really love to mix the fonts. The little banners underneath the picture reminds me of a party and good times.

Mood Board Inspiration with Nathalie

Hi there!

Nathalie with you today wrapping up this week with another project inspired on this month's mood board.     I love VIcki's new release, everything is just so versatile, and since we are on school break for March Break, time has been spent with my daughter, niece and nephew, having those new pre made mixed media backgrounds was amazing!, so let me show you what i created:

 

 

This layout was totally inspired on this month's mood board (available here and at the Vicki Boutin Mixed Media community on Facebook )

 

The images of the mood board gave me so many ideas, but i was in love with those glitter stars that i had to make them the focus of this post.   For that I used the new Iridiscent Glitter Glaze and some of the fine silver glitter from Vicki's Mixology collection, and played with a few ideas on how to add the mix to a foundation paper.  Below is a picture of the results of the different ideas i had in mind for the stars.

 

 

 

The glaze and glitter mixture brings lots of shine to play foundation paper; whenever added on top of a watercolored paper, it lightens the application area,thus creating a bleached-like effect on the page; and when the watercolor is mixed in the glaze, the results are a glittery paste of uniform color, but with a very luminescent finish on the color, thus making it a few shades lighter.

 

 

The clear glaze mixture was added to a foundation paper and set aside to dry,  the  drying process is a long one due to the application and formulation of the glaze.  Once it was completely dried, i used a set of star dies (Maya Road) to cut the paper.   Once again the  glitter glaze makes it a bit harder to cut the paper,  so i had run the paper and die a few times through my die cutting machine.

 

To bring the dark edges to the stars, i used a stencil brush and a bit of art crayon around the edges.  Now for the mat of this page, i pulled the new Pre-made Mixed Media backgrounds, and chose the large circle (as it reminded  me of the rainbow in the mood board), and layered the glitter stars and paper stars to form a crescent moon on the right of the page where i could nestle my picture.

 

 

For the title of the this page, I took advantage of the puffy word stickers and a few of the glitter stars to create a cluster where i can add my title and balance the layout.   A few embellishments were added  - i kept to a black and white scheme for these- and then to finish i added a few splatters of black art crayon.  Just love how this turned out, and have prepared a video that shows you how it all came together:

I wished that you all could appreciate how shiny the stars really are, though i tried a few different angles, it is hard to capture it all in the camera.

March Mood Board Layout with Color Kaleidoscope

Hello friends! I am so excited to share my March Mood Board inspired layout with you! It is so fun to create with the new Color Kaleidoscope Botanical Stencil set!  The colors in the mood board I chose to use are yellow, pink, aqua, and cobalt blue. How will you use the inspiration from the Mood Board? 

 

 

 

You can see the color and the water droplets in the photos that inspired me from the Mood Board above.

 

 

 

Above, you can see the White Foundations Mixed Media Art paper that features the circular stencil from the Color Kaleidoscope Botanical Set. I started by adding a layer of VB gesso through the stencil. After drying the VB gesso, I added pigment ink through the stencil again, over the gesso. This way the color is raised and gives an interesting texture. Then, I hand stitched with embroidery floss in matching colors of thread. The aqua color is dominant, and the yellow, pink, and cobalt are supporting colors.

 

 

 

The Color Kaleidoscope Side Note paper is used for the background. I love that it reminds me of the sea, and ocean waves. I chose to add three areas of white and thin circular frames and a photo, in clusters,  to the background. I punched several sizes of circles from the Color Kaleidoscope patterned papers. I created a few extra stencil circle areas to use as embellishment on the page as well.

 

 

 

The completed layout has so many layers from the epoxy, puffy stickers, and punched patterned papers, that it gives a lot of texture to the page. I added the cobalt stitching to the ink-blended light blue and cobalt circles since the photo on the right has that color in it. I added the thin white circle frames to the White Foundations paper in the center, to tie it in to the background. I added lots of embellishment to each of the circle centers, and had fun choosing different elements for the page.

 

 

 

 

 In this closer view, you can see the enamel dots, and the Color Kaleidoscope Epoxy Thickers. I love the enamel dots from a previous collection of Vicki's and have several packages of them on hand at all times, as the colors are perfect! The fringe punched circles are created with six layers of an asterisk punch. I like the added texture that resembles a straw hat, like the one I am wearing in the photo.

 

 

 

 I journaled on the circle from back of the Side Note paper, that looks like a page from a notebook. I placed the colors of embellishments over the matching stenciled areas, to give a tone on tone effect. Say Cheese | Moodboard inspired Layout with Jana

Hi everyone, Jana back again and i have a fun new layout to share. This is also my very first Layout i´ve made with "Color Kaleidoscope" Collection - oh my, that line is awesome!

But let me show you the new Moodboard before we will talk about my layout...

I was totally inspired by the black scribbled heart and the beautiful watercolors around the butterfly. I knew i wanted to mix both images together and so i started with a stitched, wonky and messy heart on my Foundation paper, which i also primed with a thin layer of gesso.

The cute photo shows two of my three boys, in the age of four and one, or maybe a bit older. I really love this photo and i really miss this time...
i grabbed the brand new watercolor markers and started to color around the heart. I added a lot of water to a tiny drop of the markers, the color is going a long way. I smudged/kissed the color with a piece of plastic to get a nice messy image. I also added tons of splatters! I really love how this turned out

I decided to use some pretty colored hearts from one of the 6x8 patterned papers. I fussy cut some of them out and tried to stay in the same colors. The paper hearts are a bit darker then the watercolors but i am totally fine with that. I used 3D squares to glue them down, this is giving a some shadow and great dimension.

My title is this bright pink "SAY cheese" puffy phrase sticker and i totally love it. I used one number from the sticker book (i sticked it to a piece of white cardstock and fussy cut it out, so it´s easier to move around, like a die cut) and one paper cloud from the ephemera pack. The little matching hearts are also from the phrase puffy stickers.

I grabbed three chipboard stickers to create a little second title... the camera next to the number and "made me laugh.. all day". I also decided to add a black boarder around my layout and for that i re-sized the 12x12 Foundation paper with my scissors, not straight or even. I distressed the edges with some scissors too. I love how this is looking! The final touches were some black splatters

I had so much fun with this Mood Board and i really hope you´re inspired to use it for your next project.

Sketch Inspiration with Nathalie

Hi there!

Nathalie with you today with a new layout that is totally inspired on this month's sketch -Thank you Jana for creating such a fun sketch!-  I love sketches as they are a great starting point for a project, it makes for an easy and faster process. So i pulled Vicki's new paper line, Color Kaleidoscope, the watercolor markers and the glitter glaze to create this page totally inspired by the sketch...

 

and here is the sketch were are using as inspiration:

The color inspiration for this page are the "Things are Looking Up" paper and the new Irisdiscent Glitter Glaze, so i used them both to create the background on the page.  I started by drawing the triangle on a gessoed foundation paper, and then mixed Mint Julep, Blue Hawaiian, and Blueberry Pie watercolor markers to add color to the page.   Once it dried, i used a bit of the Irisdiscent Glitter glaze and one of the new stencils to create in impression on the background.

 

 

Just love all those glitter pieces shining on the background.  While this all dried, a bit of purple watercolor marker was brayered to a piece of foundation paper.  I embossed some of the circle stamps with pearl embossing powder to give it that pearlescent look, and then set them aside ready to add to the page.

 

 

To assemble the page, i replaced the big triangle shape with paper chevrons (Color Kaleidoscope paper pads), this way i could use all the tones that are present in the background.   The same papers, as well as the holographic vellum from the collection, were used to back and layer the pictures.

 

 

Those purple circle images replace the stars in the sketch, and bring the colors that the holographic chipboard stickers also reflect when the light hits them.  I added a title using the Colorful puffy stickers... so happy that they match the sentiment of this layout to a tee!

 

 

Here is my little addition to the page;  though i love lots of white space, i found that i needed to emphasize the triangular shape of the sketch, and also create  a diagonal line with the title, so i decided to create a little cluster of embellishments at the bottom of the page.  I used a bit of watercolor markers to add color to the spot, then layered some washi tape.  A few chipboard stickers and then one of the embossed circles complete the page.  HEre is small video that shows you how it all came together:

I love how this page came together.  Sketches are a great source of inspiration, and a great starting point for a page!   All that is left to do after is add some of Vicki's magic and paper lines and done!
