Hey there Friends! I am super excited to welcome a new team member! We are very happy to have Leigh Ann Odynski also know as Artfuleigh join the Vicki Boutin Mixed Media Team! Her creations are stunning and she is going to make an awesome addition to my little crafting family!
I would also like to thank Mandy Melville for adding such colourful and creative flair to my first ever VB DT!!! You will be missed Mandy, but we will still be following all of your scrapbooking pursuits on IG and Facebook!!!
So without further ado...let's see what Leigh made this week featuring Field Notes!
Hello Friends! Leigh here to share my first project as a Vicki Boutin Design Team Member! I have been following along with Vicki’sFacebook Live videos for a long while, and love that they are a free mixed media class every Friday! What have you been making with Vicki? After creating the watercolor galaxy background on August 3, I loved it so much I wanted to use it as a layout base. Of course, like Vicki says, just playing with her supplies is sufficient all on its own, and I learn so much just creating along side her!
The watercolor galaxy background inspired this entire page, from the photo selection to the custom watercolor stickers in the Field Notes line made to match the colors in the background. I cut the galaxy background in half vertically, and in this case it looks like a sunset. I wanted as much of the background as possible to show, so I lined all my page elements down the center of the page.
I sealed the background with VB Matte Acrylic Gel Medium and let it dry. I used the Field Notes stamp and die set to heat emboss images in white, also down the center. TIP: Use a powder tool to keep the embossing powder from sticking to the pretty background. I layered different images from the stamp set and stamped them a few at a time, so that I could heat emboss each one and set it before stamping the next images.
Watercoloryour stickers using the VB water brushes, and Art Crayons with the same colors used on your background. I started with the lighter color, let that dry, then added a more saturated color on top for each sticker. You can see the water lines because I let each color dry before moving on to the next, and I made sure to leave a few spots uncolored. Let the stickers fully dry before adhering them to your layout.
While your stickers dry, adhere a 6 inch wide piece of White Foundations paper to the watercolored background. Splatter coordinating colors of Art Crayon with the Water-brush, wiping on a paper towel before changing to the next color. It is easy to coordinate all the layout elements by using the same colors of Art Crayons on different items for the page. Let the splatters dry, then stitch around the entire page to frame the layout, if desired.
I added layers cut from the Field Notes papers, the acetate piece from the watercolor stickers pack, a watercolored mat, and a lined die cut with a notebook punched edge down the center. Some of the stickers are layered on foam dots. I punched white leafy bits to tuck under the watercolored stickers here and there.
There are lots of textures on the page to add interest, and the layers are built up over the heat embossed stamping to tie the page together with repetition. The journaling and die cut packs are great for hidden journaling, and I tucked one under the purple mat that slides out for reading.
The finished layout has the photo, a title from the Field Notes Thickers pack, and a subtitle and it is done. I love how Vicki inspired me to try some colors outside of my comfort zone, and the result is a cherished page that has my heart.
Have you tried making art along with Vicki? I would love to see it!
Thanks for visiting today, and happy creating! Leigh
